Scope of Practice

Health and Wellness Coaching is a collaborative, client-centered partnership that supports individuals in making self-directed, sustainable lifestyle and behavior changes aligned with their values and goals.

Guided by the National Board for Health & Wellness Coaching (NBHWC) Scope of Practice, coaching emphasizes client autonomy and focuses on building self-awareness, motivation, accountability, and confidence through evidence-based coaching skills such as active listening, goal setting, and strengths-based reflection.

Health and Wellness Coaching is non-medical and educational in nature. Coaches do not diagnose, treat, cure, or prescribe for medical or mental health conditions, do not provide medical or mental health advice, and do not replace care from licensed healthcare professionals. Clients are encouraged to seek guidance from their healthcare providers regarding medical concerns.

Participation in coaching does not create a medical, mental health, or other licensed provider–patient relationship.
